December 1st has struck, which means all things Christmas are in order. This is the first year I have saved for Christmas all year, so I am mostly done shopping- and the stress has been much less as I could pick things up throughout the year that were a good fit. I am a minimalist at heart, so all the little trinkets and little pieces, just look to me like a million pieces of glitter that I will have to pick up one million times a day. Therefore, we try to stick to educational ideas, or activities, with one of two “just for fun” things thrown in.
This year I am compiling a gift guide for those new moms, new dads, or soon-to-be new moms and dads in your life. As a doula and a childbirth educator, I can say that often times the amount of stuff that comes with babies, is overwhelming. Often times a new mom feels like she has to have all the new gadgets, but forgets about those all important things- like a good meal, and sleep.
Birth Doula/Childbirth Classes- This goes without saying but I believe education and support are two of the best gifts you can give to new parents. Education is power, and the gift of a class for parents to spend time preparing for their birth is so important. Contact us today to gift a family birth doula services, or one of our awesome Birth Boot Camp classes!
Postpartum doula- this goes without saying, but a postpartum doula- or a gift card for their services- goes a really long way. A postpartum doula cooks nutritious meals, helps keep up with the laundry, watches the baby, or does anything the family needs to help their transition into being a new family. Often times they are trained in breastfeeding support as well, which can be invaluable to a new parent. Contact us if you need a great postpartum doula!
Robe/Slippers- chances are a new mom is going to be spending a lot of time exposed, as she will be nurturing a great breastfeeding relationship and bonding with her new baby. A nice new comfy robe and quality slippers- like these here– would be a great gift!
New book- Moms will spend a lot of time tied to the couch or the chair to establish a great nursing relationship. A new journal, a devotional, a new fictional book, or coloring book would make an awesome stocking stuffer. This is the devotional I will be getting for 2018 and I am so excited about it!
Water bottle- Every new momma needs an awesome water bottle! Did you know that when you are nursing you should be consuming more than half your body weight in ounces to establish and keep a good milk supply? We are in the process of getting rid of all the plastic in our home, so everyone is getting either a stainless steel or glass water bottle for Christmas. This is the one I am most excited about right now!
A home cooked meal or gift cards- Nothing says I love you more than food. Don’t have time to cook? How about a great gift card to a healthy restaurant that they can order down the street from? We all need to eat, and we all know that when you have a new baby just the idea of trying to figure out what is for dinner can be a struggle. Stick a gift card in their stocking and you’ll be sure to make their holiday!
