Do you know your support and resources for pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Many times I meet moms who had a less than positive experience with their first birth, and then they get pregnant again. Man or man is it a different story. They start from scratch and begin building this amazing village of support and resources; from the time of conception all the way through to preschool and beyond.
One thing I think our culture teaches us from the beginning,is that we are capable, we don’t need help and we CAN do it. While I firmly believe that you are equipped and capable to be the best mother possible- I also know that we don’t have to buy into the lie that we are in this alone and that we HAVE to do it all on our own. Pregnancy, Birth, Motherhood are tough. It is the most mentally, physically, and emotionally taxing job around. Making sure we have adequate support and resources through this time can help in navigating through the tenuous or even joyful times ahead.
So go ahead, make your list. I have mine. It is includes everything from prenatal massage, all the way through quality preschool and care providers. Creating our village isn’t easy- but it’s worth it. Make sure you have a list, get one from your doula, or find some friends who have good referral sources. I personally don’t give out a referral unless I have met or talked with the person to assure we are on the same page in caring for moms, dads, babies, and families.
